Eve and Lee first met about 10 years ago at the gym where Lee worked, but it wasn’t until five years later that the couple began to date after bumping into each other on a night out with friends.
Fast forward three years and Lee had decided he was going to propose to Eve whilst on a romantic holiday in Barbados. He had every little detail planned including an expensive restaurant and a beautiful brilliant cut diamond set on a platinum band. Unfortunately, the restaurant atmosphere did not feel perfect, so Lee decided this wasn’t the right time and put his plans on hold until later that evening. Whilst walking back to their hotel, along the beach, he popped the question and of course Eve said “Yes”. As Eve was five months pregnant at the time with their daughter Jaea, wedding plans were put on hold until home life was a little calmer.
Both Eve and Lee had a good idea of the type of wedding they wanted so planning it was fairly easy. They came across L’Horizon Hotel and Spa on the Channel Island Jersey, as a venue, through Lee’s job, as the divisional fitness manager for Fitness First, which requires him to travel the entire south of the country and Jersey itself. Although they both fell in love with the Hotel, Lee admits when they first visited the venue he could not visualise how their day would look as it was a very wet winter’s day, but thankfully their wedding day on July 12th, couldn’t have been more different.
I arrived at Eve’s hotel room on the morning of the wedding to find a very calm Eve, with her sister Lee Norman, her daughter Millie and Eve’s two daughters Mia and Jaea. Eve looked amazing as her sister helped her into her pearl coloured, beaded one-shoulder dress by Maggie Sottero, supplied by White Lace in Coleshill, Birmingham, and it’s fair to say she took to being a model for the day with great ease. Eve decided to finish off the dresses with bouquets supplied by Oasis florist, Jersey she says “I chose a simple arrangement of white peonies and roses, my eldest bridesmaid had a bouquet of white roses, whilst the girls wore wrist corsages made of a single white rose and all of our male guests wore a single white rose”. After shooting some truly stunning bridal portraits and several shots with the beautiful bridesmaids I left the girls to have a small glass of bubbly and went to meet up with the boys.
I found a relatively relaxed Lee with his two best men Anthony Goodison and Craig Jones, getting suited and booted in Craig‘s hotel room in their black wedding suits with champagne coloured cravats supplied by Duncan James menswear in Walsall. Once they were ready we headed out to the seafront to take some shots. At two o’clock it was time for the ceremony to begin. Eve and the girls looked fantastic as they were escorted down the aisle by Eve’s brother Christy. Once the legal part of the day was over Eve and Lee led their guests out on to the sea front terrace where champagne and canopies where served in the blistering Jersey sunshine. As is usually the case, Eve and Lee had requested some formal family groups which were shot with the amazing white sand beach as a backdrop, and following this the three of us headed down to the beach to shoot the bride and groom portraits.
I must admit I felt a bit spoilt with a gorgeous couple and such a fantastic setting and the results were stunning. Eve talks here about their thoughts on the photographs. “I already knew Ben through my other sister Anna, and having seen his portfolio and website, we knew he was exactly what we were looking for. On the day Ben made everyone feel relaxed, especially me when I thought I’d lost my veil and even helped Lee when he had trouble with his buttonhole! We had nothing but positive comments about Ben, all our guests commented on his professionalism and friendliness. We would definitely recommend Ben to anyone looking for a photographer. Everything ran smoothly on the day and exactly how we had discussed it with Ben in our pre wedding meetings”
The Couple were joined in Jersey by 32 friends and family who were treated to a superb wedding breakfast at L’Horizon hotel as well as three very funny speeches from Lee, Anthony and Craig, but the party wasn’t over. A week later Eve and Lee got dressed up again for a wonderfully elegant black tie reception at the Radisson BLU Hotel in the centre of Birmingham.
They were joined by a further 82 friends and family and following a champagne reception enjoyed a fantastic hot buffet meal. The couple looked as radiant as they had done the week before and Lee still looked like the happiest man alive. Both were wearing the same outfits they had worn in Jersey and were more than happy to show off the fantastic diamond set platinum wedding bands supplied by G.L Bicknell and Sons in the Jewellery Quarter. A great night followed at the Radisson and Lee even seemed to enjoy getting a second ribbing in a week from Anthony and Craig who along with Lee gave speeches following the meal.
I loved every second of photographing this wedding and it was a great experience for me to shoot in such a beautiful location, pictures of such great people so thank you both for giving me the opportunity to be a part of your day and I wish you all the luck in the world.
