Ben Fones Photography Turns 1
April 2010 marked the first anniversary of me setting up Ben Fones Photography and what a first year it has been, 16 hour days, 7 days a week for pretty much the first three months can take its toll on a person but trust me it has been worth every minute. The first twelve months of trading mainly consisted of doing a lot of freelance weddings for Gary Williams Photography, having already booked these weddings before I left the company. In addition to this I was able to pick up several commercial jobs for companies such as Touch Base Magazine, Caramba Marketing and Pinnacle Challenge, as well as picking up the odd wedding and portrait here and there.
In September 2009 my first round of adverts were published taking out half page adverts in the wedding Planner Magazine, The Wedding Organiser Magazine and Wedding Connections Magazine and finally seeing my name print gave me a big rush. During this time I also made the best advertising investment I have made to date by attending the Wedding Connections Wedding Fairs run by June Jackson at The Mill Hotel in Alverly and also The Copthorne Hotel in Merry Hill taking over 14 bookings from the two events. The relationship with June and the Magazine is something that as continued to prosper ever since with myself exhibiting at both wedding fairs earlier in this year and also moving up to a full page advert in the magazine for the last three issues. June and I certainly get on well and I have received many little bits of advise from June and the team which I constantly put into practice, including being one of the first companies to sign up to exhibit at her latest venture, the marquee wedding fair later this year at the Merry Hill centre (stay tuned for more info).
Its fair to say that in the first twelve months Ben Fones Photography has gone from strength to strength meeting my 2010 wedding bookings target by early February 2010 and with over 15 weddings on the books for 2011 already, it doesn’t look like slowing up anytime soon… fingers crossed. A side from making strides in the wedding industry I have managed to pick up some great commercial clients in the last twelve months including shoots for Boots, Signature Flight and Sandhills Day Nursery, and this side of the business looks to be growing all the time with the addition of a permanent contract with nuclear engineering company NES ltd.
So twelve months on did I make the right decision? You bet I did. Despite the long hours and 7 day weeks I have loved every minute and it has given me the opportunity to do things and meet people that I would never have had before. I don’t know what the next twelve months will hold but all I know is that I will continue to work my butt off to create the most beautiful wedding images and stunning commercial shots with the aim to make Ben Fones Photography a leading light in the industry.
At this point I should also say a massive thank you to my wonderful wife Lauren and son Finley for all there support over the last twelve months and for putting up with not seeing me too often. Also a big thank you to my mom Margaret and step dad Neil for always having the faith and belief that I could make a success of the company.
